Our Children Are A Treasure From God!

Luke 18:16

But Jesus called them unto him, and
said, Suffer
little children to come unto
me, and forbid them
not: for of such is
the kingdom of God.

Proverbs 22:6

Train up a child in the way he should
go: and
when he is old, he will not
depart from it.

  Psalms 127:3,4

Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD:

and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

As arrows are in the hand of a mighty

man; so are children of the youth.

Psalms 127:5

Happy is the man that hath his
quiver
full of them:

Hebrews 12:5

And ye have forgotten the exhortation
which
speaketh unto you as unto
children, My son,
despise not thou the
chastening of the Lord,
nor faint when
thou art rebuked of him:

 The More Indulgence, the

Harder the Management.

     Parents, make home happy

for your children.  By this I do

not mean that you are to indulge them.

The more they are indulged, the harder

they will be to  manage, and the more

difficult it will be for them to live true,

noble lives when they go out into the

world. If you allow them to do as they

please, their purity and loveliness of

character will quickly fade. Teach

them to obey.  Let them see that your

authority must be respected.  This may

seem to bring them a little unhappiness

now, but it will save them from much

unhappiness in the future.

    Make Religious Instruction Pleasant.

Religious instruction should be given

to children from their earliest years. It

should be given, not in a condemnatory

spirit, but in a cheerful, happy spirit.

Mothers need to be on the watch

constantly, lest temptation shall come

to the children in such a form as not to

be recognized by them.  The parents

are to guard their children with wise,

pleasant instruction.  As the very best

friends of these inexperienced ones,

they should help them in the work

of overcoming, for it means every-

thing to them to be victorious. They

should consider that their own dear

children who are seeking to do right

are younger members of the Lord’s

family, and they should feel an

intense interest in helping them to

make straight paths in the King’s

highway of obedience. With loving

interest they should teach them day

by day what it means to be children

of God and to yield the will in

obedience to Him. Teach them that

obedience to God involves obedience

to their parents. This must be a daily,

hourly work.  Parents, watch, watch

and pray, and make your children

your companions.

By their neglect to exercise proper

restraint, many parents are creating

great unhappiness for their children.

The youth who are left to constantly

seek for pleasure in amusement or

selfish gratification are not happy,

and never can be happy while

following this course. Fathers and

mothers, teach  your children that

the only way to be truly happy is to

love and fear God; and enforce the

lesson by your example.  Let them

see that the peace of Christ is ruling

in your heart, and that his love

pervades your life. Practical religion

is the need of the present hour. You

cannot teach this to your children

unless you possess it yourselves.

Mothers, you should begin to discipline

your child when it is a babe in your arms.

Through childhood to youth, through youth

to manhood, you should train your children

for the family above. God does not desire

you to take up your time in adorning your

garments and decorating your homes, to

the neglect of the education of your children.

You should take your children out into the

gardens, and show them the beautiful flowers

that God has made. God is the great master

artist, and the pictures which are painted by

human artists and admired by the world, are

only feeble imitations of the works of God.

God daily works miracles before us in the

unfolding of the blossoms; for no human

hand can paint such delicate hues, or fashion

such graceful plants. All this speaks of the

work of the divine Artist, and each flower

is an expression of the love of God to us.

God has designed to make us happy. He

has covered the earth with the beautiful

green verdure; for he knew that this color

would be grateful to our senses. Each

beautiful thing in nature is a token of

God’s love and care.  So take your children

out into the open air beneath the canopy

of the heavens, under the noble trees, into

the gardens, and point them through nature

up to nature’s God. Carry their minds up to

contemplate the works of God in nature

that they may learn to love him in their

childhood and youth. Do not weary them

with long prayers and tedious exhortations,

but teach them to be obedient to the law of

God. Teach them to be kind and courteous,

tell them that if they are rude and unlovely

in disposition, they cannot enter into the

kingdom of heaven where all is peace and

love. We are here to be trained for the

family above.

The Signs of the Times  January 7,1903

By a faithful discharge of duty you

may make this a happy year for your

children. Home should be to them the

most attractive place on earth; and it

may be made such by kind words

and deeds, and, underlying all, a

steadfast adherence to the right.

Fathers and mothers, teach your

children that the only way to be truly

happy is to love and fear God; and

emphasize this lesson by your example.

Let the children see that the peace of

Christ rules in your hearts, and that

His love controls your lives.

The Signs of the Times  June 6,1878

Children who are Christians will prefer

the love and approbation of their God-

fearing parents above every earthly blessing.

They will love and honor their parents.

This should be one of the principal studies

of their lives, How can I make my parents

happy?  Children who have not been

disciplined and received right instruction,

have but little sense of their obligations to

their parents.  It is often the case that the

more their parents do for them the more

ungrateful they are, and the less they respect

them. Children that have been petted and

waited upon, always expect it; and if their

expectations are not met, they are

disappointed and discouraged.

This same disposition will be seen

through their whole lives, and they will

be helpless, leaning upon others for aid,

expecting others to favor them and

yield to them. And if they are opposed,

even after grown to manhood and

womanhood, they think themselves

abused; and thus they worry their way

through the world, hardly able to bear

their own weight, often murmuring and

fretting because everything does not suit

them.  Much sin results from idleness.

Active hands and minds do not find time

to heed every temptation the enemy

suggests; but idle hands and brains are

all ready for Satan to control, and parents

should teach their children that idleness

is sin.

Atlantic Union Gleaner   May 14, 1902

Mothers, make the education of your

children the highest aim of life.  Their

future happiness depends upon the

education they receive in their early

years. Do not send them away from

you to school when they are young.

If your habits and dress are as simple

as they should be, you will find ample

time to make your children happy,

and to lead them to obey you. God

will help you to teach them how to

submit cheerfully and willingly. Take

up your duties, inspired by the noble

resolve to do your work faithfully and

well. Do not become discouraged. In

due time you will reap if you faint not.

You will see your children growing up

into Christian men and Christian women.

 Advent Review and Sabbath Herald

Parents, your first work for your

children should be to teach them that

God will not accept superficial work.

Teach them concerning the great

sacrifice that Jesus has made in their

behalf, in order that they might be

happy in the mansions which he has

gone to prepare for those who love

him.  Satan is at work to ruin our

youth in every institution that we

have, by leading them to do superficial

work. O that we all might understand

that we cannot afford to do surface

work; for it will entail upon us loss in

this life and in that which is to come.

Paul instructed Timothy in that in

which all our youth should be instructed.

He said: “Study to show thyself approved

unto God, a workman that needeth not to

be ashamed.” “Thou therefore, my son, be

strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

And the things that thou hast heard of me

among many witnesses, the same commit

thou to faithful men, who shall be able to

teach others also. Thou therefore endure

hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”

Fundamentals of Christian Education PG  156

Christian parents, take up your life

burden, and think candidly of the

sacred obligations that rest upon you.

Make the word of God your standard,

instead of following the  fashions and

customs of the world, the lust of the

eye, and the pride of life. The future

happiness of your families and the

welfare of society depend largely

upon the physical and moral education

which your children receive in the

first years of their life.
